Prime's power, in an ultra-concentrated powder.

Liquid conditioners run out fast and cost a fortune to ship — but you still need reliable protection against chlorine, chloramine, and ammonia.

Seachem Safe is the dry version of Prime: the same complete conditioning chemistry in a powder so concentrated a little goes a very long way. It removes chlorine and chloramine, detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, is non-acidic, and won't overactivate skimmers. Ideal for large systems and serious hobbyists.

Since 1979, Seachem Laboratories has taken a science-driven approach to water care, formulating its treatments in-house in Madison, Georgia. Safe is that philosophy distilled to its purest form: a dry, exceptionally concentrated conditioner that delivers Prime-level results while cutting shipping weight and cost.

  1. Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp) per 1,250 L (300 US gallons) for chlorine/chloramine.
  2. Or 1.25 g (1/4 tsp) per 300 L (75 US gallons) for ammonia.
  3. Best added to new water before a change.

Why Seachem Safe

  • Maximum concentration: a dry powder so potent that a fraction of a teaspoon treats hundreds of gallons — the most economical way to condition large volumes.
  • Complete Prime chemistry: removes chlorine and chloramine while detoxifying ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.
  • Non-acidic and filter-safe: won't impact pH and won't overactivate protein skimmers.
  • System-friendly: safe for fresh and salt water and interchangeable with Prime across the Seachem conditioner range.

Best For

Large aquariums, ponds, fish rooms, and high-volume water changes where liquid conditioners become impractical or expensive to ship and store.

What It Does

Removes chlorine and chloramine; detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Non-acidic — will not impact pH. For fresh and salt water. The standard dose (100 mg per 100 L) removes 1 mg/L chloramine, 1.4 mg/L chlorine, and 0.33 mg/L ammonia.

Directions

50 g size: Use 200 mg (scoop) per 200 L (50 gallons) for chlorine/chloramine, or per 50 L (13 gallons) for ammonia.

All other sizes: Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp) per 1,250 L (300 US gallons) for chlorine/chloramine, or per 300 L (75 US gallons) for ammonia. Best added to new water first. A double dose may be used safely for high chloramine; up to 4x to detoxify nitrite/nitrate in an emergency. Above 30 °C (86 °F) with low chlorine/ammonia, use a half dose.

FAQ

Is Safe the same as Prime?
Safe is the dry, powdered form of Prime with the same conditioning chemistry. It's more concentrated by volume and far lighter to ship, which makes it ideal for large systems.

How much Safe do I use?
For chlorine/chloramine, use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp) per 300 US gallons; for ammonia, use the same 1.25 g per 75 US gallons. The 50 g size uses the included scoop as noted in Directions.

Can I use Safe in saltwater tanks?
Yes. Safe is non-acidic, works in fresh and salt water, and won't overactivate skimmers.
